PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE…INTERVIEWING!

Some people are good at interviewing, and some aren’t, but everyone needs to be prepared for any question not necessarily medically related. The interviewer wants to get to know who you are as a person and see if you are the same person they want to learn from your fantastic essay.

Interviewing is like dating, which can go one of two ways:

  • On paper, you want to meet them, but in person, they are COMPLETELY OPPOSITE.
  • On paper, you want to meet them, but in person, they are EXACTLY WHAT WAS EXPECTED.

After The Interview

Your interview can either get accepted, wait-listed, or rejected. YES, you can be wait-listed, meaning you could be accepted if someone declines the acceptance or there need to be more people to fill the class cohort. You may think I don’t want to be a second option, but it doesn’t matter.

As long as you accept, that’s all that matters!

Before your interview, you will receive an email confirming your interview but be reassured when you see a weird question. That odd question will test your morality and ethics in a situation; it does not have to be related to medicine. Your answer must be between 250 to 1000 words, but I recommend between 300-700 words. A 1000 words are too long. Your explanation should be concise and thorough.

Here is an example:

  • What would you do if your friend called to admit he/she was drunk, hit a pedestrian last night, and left the scene?

10 Common Interview Questions (you should know the answers):

  • Why do you want to come to this PA Program?
  • Do you know the difference between a PA, NP, and MD?
  • What is the history of the PA profession?
  • How are you going to support yourself financially in school?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses? (Your shortcomings must be fixable!!)
  • How to deal with a problematic situation or patient?
  • How to deal with a problematic situation or patient?
  • Why did you get a C in a course? (Any low grade)
  • What difficulties do you think are facing PAs today?
  • How would you deal with a Physician asking you to do something you know is incorrect?
